Yvonne Perkins

Yvonne Perkins, 66 passed away November 10, 2016. TheIndianapolis native was born April 14, 1950 to the late Leander O. Perkins andNaomi Coleman Perkins.
Yvonne attended Indianapolis Public Schools, earned her Bachelor's Degree inBusiness Administration from Butler University and an MBA from Indiana WesleyanUniversity. In addition, Yvonne completed several programs at variousinstitutions including Harvard University, Claremont College and the Universityof Oklahoma. She was a dedicated employee of Citizens Energy Group for 43years, serving in numerous leadershippositions, most recently Vice President, Corporate Communications and ChiefDiversity Officer. A Certified Public Accountant, Yvonne also had her own accountingfirm.
Volunteerism was extremely important to Yvonne. She served at national levelsfor Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and Girls Scouts of the USA. She was alsoa charter member of the Circle City Chapter of The Links Inc. and Coalition of100 Black Women. Yvonne served on dozens of other boards including United Wayof Central Indiana, Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky, Ivy TechCommunity College, and the Indiana Historical Society.
Yvonne received numerous local and national awards, most notably Indiana'shighest civilian honor, the Sagamore of the Wabash.
She is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Black, grandson Davyd Hall and a hostof family and friends. Viewing will be Wednesday,November 16, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. and Thursday, November 17, 2016from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at Allen Chapel AME Church, 629 East 11^thStreet. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 12:00 p.m. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Alpha KappaAlpha Sorority, Inc.
