Wanda L. Gibson

March 19, 1940 — February 3, 2019

Wanda Lou Gibson, the daughter of James ‘Moses' and Amanda J. (Moore) Gibson, was born March 19, 1940 in Pineville, Kentucky. Wanda attended Pennington Grade School in Pennington Gap, Virginia and graduated from Crispus Attucks High School in Indianapolis, Indiana. She pursued further studies at Indiana Business College and graduated with honors and accrued several certificates of completion and honors for Computer and Business-related courses between 1998 and 2000.

She retired from RCA in Indianapolis, Indiana in 2001 after 35 years of dedicated service.

Wanda's untiring passion was her church. She was a member of Allen Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Indianapolis Indiana since the age of 17 years when her family relocated to Indianapolis from Virginia.

She attended every Indiana Conference from the age of 18 until later years when her health failed. Wanda was recognized for 57 years of service in the Women's Missionary Society (WMS). She became a Life Member of WMS during year 2000. She received the first WMS Life Members' stole among those bestowed WMS Life Member status in Indianapolis. She also received several certificates of achievement and accomplishment from her church and the various organizations in which she participated.

Wanda worked, was involved in, or participated in many capacities during her years as God's servant at Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church including: President of the Women's Missionary Society, life member of the Women's Missionary Society, delegate and attendee of the General Conference, Usher Board Member, President of the Lay Organization, Class Leader, all levels of the Young Peoples Department of the Missionary, teacher of Sunday School, Sunday School Superintendent, teacher of the New Members Class, Church Secretary, teacher of Vacation Bible School, member of the Board of Christian Education, the Indiana Conference YPD Director, 1st of the 4th District YPD Presidents, Recording Secretary of the Indiana Conference, and 2nd Vice President of the Indiana Conference. She was also a member of the RCA Retirement Club and a member of the ‘Gang' Birthday Club.

Wanda was an example of Christian character. She believed in giving 100 percent to every task she undertook. The 23rd Psalm was her favorite Scripture. Wanda was like the ‘Energizer Bunny'—she kept going, even though her pace was getting slow and she eventually needed a cane to steady herself. Wanda was the ‘Walking Book of Knowledge' of the A.M.E. Church. Wanda represented a ‘Diamond' of the highest quality. She aged gracefully and her Christian values increased with age.
