Tony "Tag" Gordon Sr.

Tony Allen Gordon Sr., affectionately known as “TAG”, was the 6th child of Lawrence and Esther Juanita Gordon.

Born in Indianapolis, Indiana on June 26, 1952, Tony attended Indianapolis Public School # 36, #87 and Crispus Attucks High School. Tony completed his education and enlisted in the United States Navy. Upon completion of his military service, he went on to earn two Associate’s degrees from IVY Tech Community College.

As a child, Tony met the love of his life, Aretha Blythe in 1962 while in Detroit, Michigan. They were united in holy matrimony on May 2, 1975 and celebrated 46 years of marriage. They were blessed to raise beautiful, unique children.

“TAG” was known to have had many professions. He often told his children he was one of Gladys Knight’s Pips, the 5th member of the 4 tops, an original Temptation, “Ride ‘Em Cowboy” exotic male dancer, and a pimp named “Coffee”, “because I grind so fine”, as well as a member of the Black Panther Party. He is most noted and honored for his 47 years of service to Rolls Royce {formerly Allison Transmission} as well as being a long-standing member of UAW 933.

Although Tony dedicated his time to his job, he dedicated his life to his family. He was the fun at the family party, his wife’s personal comedian, and his children’s #1 supporter. He was also the neighbourhood Dad and could often be found on the driveway basketball court with the teenagers.

Tony had a love for horses, golf, and nice cars. Every day he could be found at the Mudhole caring for Roscoe and Sugar. He looked forward to his annual Old Dude’s Spring golf trip. From a Cadillac to a luxury conversion van, to a Jaguar, to a Mercedes Benz, he took pride in driving and the upkeep of his luxury cars.

Tony was a man who anyone could rely on. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, fix a broken car, or give a sound word of advice and encouragement. Tony’s humor was legendary and sometimes inappropriate, but he loved to laugh and make others laugh. He always had a good joke or funny story to tell.

“TAG” departed this life on Monday, May 3, 2021 at the age of 68 years young. His kind-hearted nature, generosity, and humor will be missed dearly.

Tony is survived by his wife Aretha, children Tony Jr., Tselani, Remitha Lynn & Skyler, adopted daughters Wanza and Sarah, grandchildren Larissa, Teryna, Tony III, Trevin, Ania, Trinton, Sydney, Michael II, Desmond Jr., Brooklyn, and Daemond “Mr. Noodle”, Sisters Loretta Gordon-Jackson and Robin Sanders, Brothers-in-law Meddie Demmings Jr. and Kerry Sanders, a host of beloved nieces, nephews, relatives, friends, and fur family.
