Thomas C. Williams

Mr. Thomas Cecil Williams entered this earthly home on September 24, 1914 in Columbus, Indiana. His parents were Leonard and Almeda Daniel Williams Lowe. His parents and brother, Franklin P. Williams, preceded him in death. His grand-father, Thomas Daniels, was his mentor and raised him. Thomas was married to Sara Tahl and to this union two daughters were born, Patricia A. Hardy of Laughlin, Nevada and Frances Witten of Detroit, Michigan. A son, Dale R. Williams, preceded him in death. He was united in Holy Matrimony to Julia Poindexter Williams on August 1, 1953. This union was blessed with two children, Keith 'T.C.' Williams of Indianapolis, Indiana and Joyce A. Williams of Arlington, Texas. Thomas received his early education from the Public Schools of Columbus, Indiana. The family moved to Indianapolis, Indiana and Thomas graduated from Crispus Attucks High School in 1934. He was employed by City Hospital, now Wishard Hospital, Curtis Wright Foundry and the Indianapolis Public Schools in the Building and Grounds Department. In the 1970's Thomas was instrumental in getting equal employment with the help of Judge Hugh H. Dillon. After retirement, he was employed by Christ Church Cathedral and enjoyed working at the Strawberry Festival. Thomas joined Allen Chapel in 1946. He was Program Director for the Men's Fellowship. Thomas enjoyed the outings the men had at Fox Lake at the property of Rev. Carey Jacobs. Thomas was Assistant Superintendent of the Sunday School. Thomas had enjoyed having friends and family at his home for his famous catfish dinners. He also enjoyed working with his hands making furniture, woodworking and tinkering with cars. He loved to travel and he never met a stranger. He also encouraged students to go to Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Thomas worked on the Election Polls for many years and served as Judge, Clerk and Sheriff. He leaves to cherish his memory a loyal and devoted wife of fifty-four years, his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, a host of in-laws in the Poindexter family, other relatives in Columbus, Indiana, church family and life-long friends.Visitation:Friday, July 25, 2008 10:00 am - 11:00 am Allen Chapel A.M.E.
