Roy S. Nunnally Sr., born October 20, 1945, in Holly Springs, Mississippi, was the seventh of fourteen children. He was deeply involved in the civil rights movement and played a key role in changing the atmosphere in Ashland and Holly Springs, Mississippi. One of his most memorable moments was meeting Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during the March from Selma to Montgomery.
Roy graduated in 1969 with a Bachelor of Arts degree and married Shirley shortly after. They had three children—Leontee, Roy Jr., and Marcus—and were blessed with six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren over their 55-year marriage.
Roy had a successful 35-year retail career at F.W. Woolworth, overseeing stores in 11 states, including Indiana. He later retired as a district manager for Family Dollar and served as a substitute teacher for four years in Lawrence, Indiana.
A man of deep faith, Roy served in a pastoral role at New Zion Tabernacle, assisting several senior pastors. Preaching the Gospel and witnessing healing and deliverance brought him great fulfillment. He, often expressed his gratitude, saying, "I praise God for allowing me to know him in a deeper and more powerful way. Changing lives by Him causes me to praise Him all the more." His prayer for all, "I truly pray that those who do not know God will get to know Him and have a real relationship with Him, receive His Holy Spirit, power, wisdom, and understanding never known by you before."
Roy is survived by his wife, daughter, older son; 6- grandchildren, and 4-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers and five sisters.
