Minister Robert 'Bobby' Isaiah Woodson, Sr. was born on July 13, 1951 to the late Richard E. Sr. and Mae Woodson. He graduated from Crispus Attucks High School, class of 1969, and was an Army Veteran having served in the Vietnam War. Bobby was a radio personality at AM 1310 The Light; he was known as the Servant of Gospel. Bobby hosted his own radio show, The Heavenly Cafe. Bobby had been in radio for over 40 years getting his early experience working with The Queen of Gospel, Delores 'Sugar ' Poindexter, Al 'The Bishop ' Hobbs, and Sister Shirley Jackson. Bobby produced Afternoons with Amos (with the late Amos Brown), A Moment with God alongside Bishop J. Laverne Tyson, Worldwide Ministries with Minister Angela Taylor and worked with several others including Pastor Tye Turner, Brother Patrick Cole and a host of others at WTLC. Bobby also worked at IU Methodist Hospital for 18 years and held employment at UPS.
Bobby was baptized and filled with the Holy Ghost at the age of 13 at Grace Apostolic Church under the leadership of Bishop Morris E. Golder. He became an Ordained Minister in 2006 at New Beginnings Ministries under the leadership of Bishop J. Laverne Tyson. Bobby had a love for gospel music and he loved to travel with his wife, Joan. They enjoyed going to the beach and Bobby especially loved to travel to Northern New York where he would visit the Trendell Family. Bobby was an avid bowler and sports fan. Bobby was a Chicago Bears and Cubs fan; he was also fond of the Cincinnati Reds.
Bobby was a former member of the Pentecostal Mass Choir. His calling led him to host an annual 3-day revival alongside two of his fellow ministers, Minister Leroy Lewis and Minister Fred Johnson. Once a year, the group went to various churches hosting a 3 day birthday celebration revival, as all 3 ministers were born on the same day at General Hospital.
Bobby was joined in holy matrimony to Joan Trendell on October 6, 1990.
Robert Isaiah Woodson, Sr. departed this life on Friday, October 13, 2017 at the age of 66 years old. Robert was preceeded in death by his parents.
He leaves to cherish in his memory his loving wife Joan Trendell; two daughters, Kandra Rene Shockley, Alisa Rochelle Hampton; two sons Robert Isaiah(Kelsie) Woodson Jr., Craig A. Looper; Brothers and Sister, Richard Jr., Ronald, Sheilah, R. Philip (Salena), Gwendolyn, Reginald, and Rodney (Neva) Woodson. Mother and Father-In- Law Frank and Eleanor Trendell; Brothers and Sisters-In-Law Robert, John (Mary), James and Linda Trendell. Grandfather Bishop Nealon Guthrie. 10 Grandchildren Shawanna, Kyree-Shene, Kristopher Lamont, Kailyn LaNae, De'Shawn, Desmond, Janai, Isaiah, Hunter, and Arian; and 1 Great Grandson Kolton. He had a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives. Bobby maintained a loving relationship with Selena Harrison, Glee Woodson and the late Judy Mann.
