Rev. Carvis Herron, Sr., age 77, passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 .
Carvis was born in Prentiss, Mississippi to James and Mattie (Williams) Herron. He attended Prentiss Institute, Alcorn College and Crossroads Bible College.
Carvis confessed a faith in Jesus Christ as Savior at an early age at Green Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Prentiss, Mississippi.
On April 16, 1976, he married Jerilene Edwards Dungey. From this union came Milton Dungey, III., Wendelin Herron and Carvis Herron, Jr.
Carvis worked for IndyGo for 29 years as a driver/supervisor. All who knew Carivs, knew him as an avid fisherman, but more importantly, he was a Fisher of Men. He loved the Lord and in his words..'I'll serve Him 'til I die.'
Carvis was very outgoing, he never met a stranger and they never left his presence without the question..'Where do you go to church?' He was truly a laborer in the Lord's vineyard.
Carvis also served faithfully in his community. He accepted his call to preach in January 1996. His favorite scripture was II Timothy 2:15. He traveled as far as Liberia with his missionary sister, Henrietta, sharing the gospel. Carvis will be gravely missed.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Jerilene Herron; children, Milton (Angeline) Dungey, III., Wendelin Herron and Carvis (Kelly) Herron, Jr.,; siblings, Mary (Wince) Oatis, Erma Hall, Charles (Mary) Herron, and Mildred (Jeff) Gray; mother-in-law, Margaret Blunt; cousins, Willie Murrell (Woodrow) Dyson, Terry (Aretha) Hudson, six grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and special friends.
Family and Friends Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 23rd from 10 am until service time of 12 noon at Nu Corinthian Baptist Church, 5935 W. 56th Street. Interment will be in Crown Hill Cemetery.
