Rev. Carvis Herron, Sr., age 77, passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 .

Carvis was born in Prentiss, Mississippi to James and Mattie (Williams) Herron. He attended Prentiss Institute, Alcorn College and Crossroads Bible College.

Carvis worked for IndyGo for 29 years as a driver/supervisor. All who knew Carivs, knew him as an avid fisherman, but more importantly, he was a Fisher of Men. He loved the Lord and in his words..'I'll serve Him 'til I die.'

Carvis was very outgoing, he never met a stranger and they never left his presence without the question..'Where do you go to church?' He was truly a laborer in the Lord's vineyard.

Carvis also served faithfully in his community. He accepted his call to preach in January 1996. His favorite scripture was II Timothy 2:15. He traveled as far as Liberia with his missionary sister, Henrietta, sharing the gospel. Carvis will be gravely missed.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Jerilene Herron; children, Milton (Angeline) Dungey, III., Wendelin Herron and Carvis (Kelly) Herron, Jr.,; siblings, Mary (Wince) Oatis, Erma Hall, Charles (Mary) Herron, and Mildred (Jeff) Gray; mother-in-law, Margaret Blunt; cousins, Willie Murrell (Woodrow) Dyson, Terry (Aretha) Hudson, six grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and special friends.
