Renita Lynne Peck was born April 27, 1967 to Loring and Vernita Gomer in Columbus, Ohio.

As an only child, Renita was the light in her parents’ eyes as they taught her the importance of hard work, compassion and a strong sense of self. Renita attended Columbus Public Schools from kindergarten through 12th grade. While a student at Eastmoor High School, Renita was actively involved in various activities, but she took special interest in the Student Government Association.

Upon receiving her high school diploma, Renita attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. During her time at Miami, Renita participated in the Black Student Action Association and was also a Kappa Sweetheart. In 1989 she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications. Renita would go on to earn an MBA in Business Management from DeVry University.

While a student at Miami University, Renita often traveled to Indianapolis with her college best friend. It was during one of those trips that she met Christopher Peck. Chris was instantly attracted to Renita and drawn to her funny and witty personality. Renita was as smitten with Chris as he was of her. He affectionately called her “Face” and he was her, “Babe.” Renita moved to Indianapolis in the early 1990s and she and Chris were married on September 10, 2005.

Professionally, Renita thrived. She served in leadership roles at Dillard’s, Pizza Hut and Red Lobster. She also worked at Eli Lilly and Co., Xerox, and Nordstrom. From 2012 until her death, she worked as a human resource professional at Ascension Healthcare. Renita served on the boards of Children’s Bureau and Junior Achievement. She was also a respected panelist and subject matter expert for End-Stage Renal Disease Network 9. Other efforts Renita committed her time to include the Circle City Classic Parade Committee and her beloved sorority Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. of which she served on various committees and chaired the Debutante Cotillion for several years.

Renita was highly intelligent, funny, and fiercely loyal; often supporting friends through their most challenging personal battles. She was also known to “tell it like it was,” in a manner that was always authentic to her. Renita was a believer with deep faith, crediting God for the ability to shine her light in an effort to help others. She lived her life to the fullest and had few regrets.
Renita departed this life on December 10, 2021. She was proceeded in death by her parents Loring and Vernita Gomer, both sets of grandparents, and her adored dog, Prince. Renita is survived by her loving and devoted husband Christopher Peck, her uncle “Shorty” Hamilton, mother-in-law Doris Peck, and brother-in-law Ronald Peck Jr. (Adrienne), and nieces Micah and Hope Peck. Renita was an honorary auntie to numerous nieces and nephews who mourn her passing. She will also continue to be loved and missed by countless family members, longtime friends, and her cherished sorority sisters.
