Rena Mae Broadus

Rena G. Broadus, daughter of the late John B. Gay and Nodie Mae Gay, was born October 12, 1938 in Indianapolis, Indiana. She attended the Indianapolis Public Schools and graduated from Arsenal Technical High School. Rena professed a hope in Christ at an early age and united with Corinthian Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir. She later moved to Good Samaritan Missionary Baptist Church where she serviced as the Sunday School Director.

She married Roman Earl Broadus, who preceded her in death, as well as their daughter, Lesly Ann Broadus “Squeaky” and son, Roman Earl Broadus Jr.“Bug”.

Rena spent her best life, shopping, reading great books, listening to all genre of music, and teaching the Biblical doctrine. She loved to play games and do activities with her family and grandchildren. Rena was also an avid traveler until health issues became a concern.

She retired from the United States Postal Service after 40 years as a Clerk Supervisor.

Rena G. Broadus departed this life on Tuesday, May 16, 2023. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her brother, John C. Yancy Jr.; sister, Essie Willia Gay Smith; and nephews, Donald and Michael Smith.

Rena will not be forgotten as time passes, only loved and missed continuously by her beloved daughter, Michele Broadus; devoted brother, Melvin A. Gay; five granddaughters: Latasha Johnson, Latoria Broadus, Ashley Davenport, Amber Broadus and LaStar Herndon; four grandsons: Jamaal Broadus, Marvin McCray, Melvin Broadus McCray and Christopher Broadus; a host of great-grandchildren, relatives and cherished friends.
