Ollie Mildred Thomas was born to John and Carrie Brooks on June 3, 1923 in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was one of nine siblings.
She attended Crispus Attucks High School. Mildred was married to Fred E. Thomas on June 17, 1941. To this union were born 12 sons and 8 daughters.
Mildred was baptized and filled with the precious gift of the Holy Ghost on January 20, 1951, at Christ Temple Church where she was a member for many years. In 1980 she placed her membership at Grace Apostolic Church where she remained the rest of her life.
Mildred had a great sense of humor. When asked how she was doing she would reply, “pretty and good”. She became known to many at Grace Church as “Ms. Pretty and Good.” She was an avid Scrabble player and won matches at Grace Churches annual picnic and whenever invited to play at get-togethers. She continued playing into her 90’s. She liked to travel and did so with her children at various times to different states.
She loved her immediate family as well as her church family. Being a woman of great strength and godly character she was loved and respected by all who knew her. Mother Thomas was very generous. She would help out her children as well as the saints. She had what she called her “little black book”. If you borrowed money your name was in the book until you paid off your debt. She faithfully supported the church in tithes and offerings, and taught her family to do the same. She gave to missionaries and to the church missionary fund.
Sister Mildred was a true saint of God and lived the life before her family. She was a prayer warrior and through the years was vigilant in praying for her family, the church, and others. She was faithful in the disciplines of Bible study, fasting, and church attendance. Rarely did she ever miss a Sunday morning service.
She was known affectionately by members of her family as “Millie Moo,” and will always be remembered as a woman who loved God. Her kind ways and quiet strength have left a legacy to be passed down to the generations. She will be greatly missed by her family and those who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred E. Thomas, and sons, James, Dennis, Stephen, Brian, Mark and Vincent.
Sister Ollie Mildred Thomas departed this earthly life on Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at the age of 96 years, 5 months and 17 days young.
