Mrs. Odessa B. Tyson, the daughter of James and Pearl Townsend, was born July 9, 1930 in Guthrie, Kentucky. She found Christ at an early age and maintained her love and work for Him incessantly throughout her life. She remained an active member of St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church until her illness.
Odessa, lovingly called “Aunt Dot”, was raised on a farm where she met Thomas Clyde Tyson “T. C.” from a neighboring farm. They joined in Holy Matrimony on April 15, 1950. To this union, she was blessed with a stepdaughter and three grandchildren.
Aunt Dot worked at Fort Benjamin Harrison Finance Center and was also a homemaker. Throughout her life, she cared for many people whether they were church members, family or friends and she always gave her best to everyone. Whether it was through her excellent cooking skills or her top-notch sewing skills, if she gave you something, it was created and given in love.
Aunt Dot maintained an excellent memory for people until her last day. If she ever knew you and loved you, please know that she carried that love with her when she passed on to Glory.
Most of us will remember her for her peach cobbler, fashion sense, dancing and entertaining, but she only wanted you to know that she loved you.
Mrs. Odessa B. Tyson departed this life on Friday, April 23, 2021. Her parents, James and Pearl Townsend; loving husband of 56 years, Thomas C. Tyson; stepdaughter, Patricia Carter; granddaughter, Robin; sister, Deloshia Tyson; and brothers: James Thomas, George Melvin, Larry, Frank, Jerry and Leon all preceded her in death.
She leaves to mourn her passing: her sisters, Lee Esther Jones (Lindell) and Mary Parker; grandchildren, Brian Carter and Reyna Carter; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, loving family and friends.
