Nathaniel Humphries Sr. was born December 19, 1935, to Charles Henry Humphries and Mary Lou Fields-Humphries in Savannah, GA. He was educated in the Chatham County Public School System. He was employed at Georgia Regional Hospital while in Savannah, GA. He moved to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1978 and was employed with Wishard Hospital as a painter until he retired. He gave his life to Christ at an early age and was a member of The United House of Prayer for All People on Ogeechee Road in Savannah, GA. and later moved his membership to The United House of Prayer for All People on Keystone Avenue in Indianapolis, Indiana, where he served faithfully until he fell ill. He was gifted with a melodious voice and participated in several singing groups within the church. He loved to cook and bake. His favorite saying was, “I love you and there’s nothing you can do about it”. He was married to his beautiful and devoted wife Frances Humphries for over 40 years, until her death in 2008. They resided in Indianapolis, Indiana.
He was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Mary Lou Humphries, wife, Frances Humphries, daughter, Cynthia Elaine Humphries Wilson, sister Viola Humphries Raysor, brothers Charles Humphries Jr, Levi Humphries, James Humphries, Walter Humphries, Willie Lee-Robert Humphries, Leon Humphries, LeArthur Humphries, Bennie Lee Humphries, grandson, Douglas Green, and Daughter-in-law, Sherry Green.
He is survived by two sisters, Catherine Humphries Jackson and Frances Humphries, five sons, Nathaniel Humphries Jr. (Yvonne), Allen Van Humphries Sr. (LaRell), David Green, Alvin Green, Carl Green Sr. (Marvetta), two daughters, Stephanie Humphries, and Mary Barlow, twenty grandchildren, Latasha Gadson, Marvin Collins Jr., Michelle Abrakson, Terry Bell, Gary Bell, Nathaniel Humphries III, Christopher Humphries, Kiwana Tompkins-Fields, Otis Tompkins III, Marcus Tompkins, Bryon Barlow, Sherrika Green, Carl Green Jr, Carla Frances Green, Vernon Green, Allen Van Humphries Jr, Tarrell L. Humphries, Justice M.M. Wallace, JaBre’ R.R. Humphries, JaMarreon A. Humphries, and a host of great grands, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
