Michael “Big Mike” Anthony Vaughn was born on July 14, 1953, to the late Booker and Ethel {Lovelace} Vaughn Sr. Michael was the seventh of eight children. The family moved to Indianapolis, IN when Michael was very young.
Michael was educated in the Indianapolis Public School System. He attended Crispus Attucks High School. Michael was a member of the basketball and football team and was name All American in football with the Crispus Attucks Tigers. He graduated in 1972 with a football scholarship to attend University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff {UAPB} in Pine Bluff AR. Michael was recruited to play for the Golden Lions. Michael played for the team all four years while majoring in Industrial Education. It was at UAPB where Michael met the love of his life, Rena Rushing.
After they both graduated from UABP they were united in holy matrimony in 1977. Michael returned to Indianapolis with his bride and begin his career with General Motors. He was employed with General Motors for 35 years before retiring in February of 2009.
Michael was a member of various clubs and organizations, Golden Lion Football Club, United Autoworkers (UAW), Nasty Riders MC, 4 C’s RV Club, HOG Indianapolis Chapter No. One, American Heart Association, and the NBRA ,
Michael accepted Christ at an early age. He was a member of Mt Pisgah MBC under the leadership of Pastor Oscar Brewer, he was in the usher ministry for ten years. In 1990 he joined Eastern Star MBC under the leadership of Sr. Pastor Jeffrey A, Johnson Sr., where he served as a faithful member until his death.
Michael departed this life for eternity on February 12th at Community North hospital in Indianapolis, IN surrounded by his family.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Michele A. Vaughn and 3 brothers, his twin Eichel Vaughn, Booker Vaughn Jr. and Byron Vaugh Sr.
Michael leaves to cherish his memory, a loving and devoted wife, Rena (Rushing) Vaughn, his son Paris D, Vaughn, one grandson Kaden D Vaughn all of Indianapolis, IN. 4 sisters Betty Jones, Linda Wellington (Isaac), Anna Smith all of Indianapolis, IN. Brenda Keith (Silura) of Detroit, Michigan, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
