A CELEBRATION OF LIFE FOR
MELISSA BERNICE HOWARD, daughter of Edna Mae Howard and William Patterson, was born January 1, 1968 in Memphis, TN.
NIECY accepted Christ and walked into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ at Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church. She completed the General Education Development (GED) diploma at Arsenal Technical High School in 1987. She worked in retails for over 15 years and for approximately 5 years worked for Goodwill Industries. She had a love and passion for working with kids. As a lifelong learning, NIECY was attending the University of Indianapolis majoring in Psychology.
NIECY departed this life on Sunday, June 9, 2019 at the age of fifty-one years old. She was preceded in death by her mother, Edna Mae Howard; grandmother, Bernice Howard; and grandfather Sammie Howard.
NIECY was a loving and devoted mother of an amazing son. Her passions in life were simple. She enjoyed spending time with her son, traveling, and she was an avid reader. With the help of her brother, Pat, she also developed a love for watching tennis. NIECY had an infectious laugh. She was greatly loved by all who met her. She was a giving person, but also direct, she kept it REAL no matter what. She will be missed.
NIECY leaves to cherish her memory a loving son, Brandon “Nuke Nuke” Poynter; brothers, Patrick Howard and Greggory Jones (Nana); aunts, Retha Whitehead, Sammy Foster; uncles, William Howard, Charles Howard, Lepoleon Gibson; nieces, Shabray Howard, Ieshia Akbar, Shyhidah Akbar; nephews, Patrick Howard Jr., Gregory Jones II, Mason Jones; childhood best friend, Michelle Bryant and a host of cousins and friends.
