Mattie Sue Wells

Mattie Sue Wells was born to Rosia Lee Smith Adams and Carl Henry Adams, Sr. on September 2, 1931, in Christian County, Kentucky. She moved to Indianapolis with her parents and brother Carl Jr. in her early teenage years.

She married Paul M. Wells on June 14, 1958. They raised two children, Raymond O. Henson and Aidreen Wells Hart. She adored her two children, sharing a close bond with her son and proud of her daughter.

Mattie Sue attended Indianapolis Public Schools. She worked at the Dixie Tomato Plant, retired from Imperial Packaging after 26 years and became a domestic worker after retirement.

She was baptized at New Bethel Baptist Church and later became a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church for over 40 years. In her last years, she enjoyed church services at Brooke Knoll Village Nursing Home where she resided.

Mattie Sue was a devoted mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend to all who knew and loved her. She valued education and fostered achievements in higher learning by encouraging and supporting her family members through school and college. She always looked forward to babysitting her grandchildren, shopping at Glendale Mall and to visits and calls from relatives.

She was surrounded by her family when she departed this life on Monday, April 13, at the age of 88 years. Her husband Paul, mother Rosia Lee Adams, father Carl Henry Adams, brother Carl Adams, Jr. and nephew Gregory Adams preceded her in death.

Mattie Sue leaves to cherish her memory, her son Raymond (Natalie) Henson, daughter Aidreen (Kelvin) Hart; grandchildren Nikki Jeannine, Tedra Joy, Janelle Rae (Jeffrey), Zahria Sheree, Kennedy Alexis; great-grandchildren Dylan Kyle, Treysen Javon, Jeffrey Allen; nieces Andrea Northington Angela Mitchell and Marva Jean Wells; nephew Dwayne Adams; dear cousins Annabelle Lewis, Effie Foster, Vonzella Allen, and Sharon Jagers; sister-in-law Barbara Adams; dear friend Dorinna Lash; and countless other relatives and friends.

The family extends a sincere thank you to the Brooke Knoll Village Nursing Home staff. They were true friends and caregivers to Mattie Sue, even ensuring her nails were always fashionable and to her liking. She appreciated all of you.
