Mary Edna Cromwell was born on August 11, 1932 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Will and Willa Davidson both of Oakland, Kentucky. Her early education began at St Rita Catholic School, later attending Crispus Attucks High School.
She professed a hope in Christ at an early age at Indiana Baptist Church under Reverend Gatewood, where she served as an usher. The church moved to a different location under the new name Indiana Missionary Baptist Church, where Mary followed and was a faithful member under Pastor Robert Milton Majors, later followed by Pastor Lenell Jordan Sr. Mary was a devoted member of the Mother’s Board until her health began to decline.
Mary was united in Holy Matrimony with her husband, Jonas W. Cromwell Sr., on February 23,1950. To their happy union, nine children, five boys and four girls, were born.
Mary spent a number of years working at Butler University dining hall. Mary later found herself at RCA where she was a dedicated employee for 20 years, until her retirement. After Mary’s retirement, she dedicated her time to helping raise her grandchildren and making memories with family and friends.
Mary Edna Cromwell departed this life on Thursday, October 17, 2024 surrounded by her family at home. Her beloved husband, Jonas W. Cromwell Sr.; parents, Will and Willa Davidson; brother, Richard Hayes; son, Jonas W. Cromwell Jr.; and grandson, Jamal Wimberly Sr. all preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her memory eight children: Sharon Ruth Wimberly, Debra Cromwell, Janice Marie Cromwell, Patricia Cromwell-Cleveland (Stan), Dawayne, Steve, Anthony (Tania) and Brian Cromwell; sixteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; twenty great-great-grandchildren; two great-great-great-grandchildren; a host of loving family and friends. Mary had a special loving heart where she touched the lives of many outside of her family. We want to acknowledge four members of Mary’s lives that she touched and welcomed with open arms into her family: James Wimberly, Penny Cleveland, Brandy Gillett, and Takeda Blackwell.
