Marva graduated from North Division High School in 1965. She then went on to attend the University of Wisconsin, where she received her certification in child development. Marva worked in Head Start – Milwaukee serving children with special needs. She then went on the work at Holy Trinity, The Children’s Bureau, and IPS in Indianapolis until her retirement. Marva always had a special connection with children and those less fortunate.
No matter if you called her Mom, Granny, Sister, Auntie, cousin, Marva/or Jean you always knew you were in the presence of someone special. She always had a hug and kind words for everyone and would always tell you she loved you and would always say “See you later”!
She leaves behind to relish in her memories two sons Todd(RoShaunda) and Kendrick Carpenter, one daughter Brooke Carpenter, grandchildren, Emani Carpenter, Reggie Mables, Allison Hayes, Kendrick Carpenter II, Kendra Carpenter, Makenzi Harden; great-granddaughter, Alexandria McChristian; her brother Jarvis(Barbara) Grays of Suisun, California; Sisters, Betty(Joe) Malone, Corine Grays, June(Jerry) James all of Fort Worth, Texas; Brothers-in-law, Robert(Gwen) Carpenter and James Carpenter; Sisters-in-law, Regina Pickett, Lynette (Winston)Williams, Janice Jackson, Benita (Larry)Lennix, and Joyce Carpenter and a host of nieces and nephews other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband – Reginald Carpenter, Father – Bailey Grays, Mother – Maurice Grays, and brother – Glenn “Bobby” Davis.
