Martha Lee (Johnson) Drye, affectionately known as “Lee”, was born on August 1, 1937 in Cane Valley, KY to the late George T. and Captola Johnson and was the second oldest of 12 children. She was preceded in death by her husband Bobby Drye; her brothers: Oliver Johnson, Paul Johnson, George Johnson, Herald Johnson and Leon Johnson; stepsisters: Deborah Coulter, Teresa Coulter and Joyce Coulter.
Martha Lee accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized at the age of 11.
Martha Lee moved to Campbellsville, KY at the age of 8 where she grew up. She graduated from Durham High School in Campbellsville, KY in 1958.
Martha Lee worked as a surgical assistant at Rosary Hospital in Campbellsville, KY from 1959-1965.
Martha Lee married the love of her life, Bobby Drye, on September 4, 1965 and moved to Indianapolis, IN. To this union, three children were born.
Martha Lee attended 28th Street Church of God in Christ from 1965-1980. She attended St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church from 1980 until her passing.
Martha Lee enjoyed sewing, quilting, ceramics, canning, gardening, shopping, spending time with her grandchildren and attending church. She was also one of the best cooks on this side of heaven.
Martha Lee went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at the age of 81.
Martha Lee’s sweet, kind, caring spirit and her love for others will always remain in the hearts of her three children: Ladonna Drye, Orlando Drye, Lisa Kelley (Charles); three grandchildren: Khyre Drye, Charles Kelley IV and Tyler Kelley; one great-grandson: Kayden Drye; five brothers: Bobby Johnson (Fannie), Marshall Johnson, Ernest Ray Johnson (Letha), Jerry Johnson and Lonnie Johnson; one sister: Beatrice Johnson; stepmother: Mary E. Johnson; three stepbrothers: Jerry Coulter, Gary Coulter, James E Clayton Jr; two stepsisters: Sandy Atkinson and Mary Clayton; two nephews: James Johnson (Joyce) and Gary Johnson; four nieces: Cherita Barlow (Ivan), Rhonda Johnson, Melanie Emery (Chad), Melisha Boyd (David); two uncles: Elder Charles Johnson and George Caldwell (Catherine); one aunt: Annie Richardson and a host of other relatives and friends, all of whom she loved dearly. Her beautiful smile and warm heart will be greatly missed.
