Margaret Sue Gilbert was born Dec 26th, 1942 to the late James Thomas and Mary Ruth Johnson. She departed this life peacefully on February 3rd, 2025 at Hamilton Trace in Fishers, IN.
Margaret was born in Campbellsville, KY and accepted Christ at a young age. During her teenage years, she moved to Indianapolis to continue her education. She was a proud 1963 graduate of Crispus Attucks High School. She also graduated from the Sarah Barlow Beauty College where she became a licensed beautician.
Later on she met and married Hugh G. Gilbert and from this union two children were born Kim Margaret and Craig Donyele Gilbert.
Margaret was a devoted wife, mother, and professional hair stylist. She operated her own beauty salon at home to stay close to her children. She later returned back to the workforce and was employed at United States Customs Service until she retired in 1999. She enjoyed meeting new people as they traveled out of the country. She was known for her friendly personality and never meeting a stranger wherever she went.
Margaret enjoyed shopping and finding great deals at garage sales. She loved playing Bingo and was crowned “Queen for a day”. She loved listening to Motown music, dancing, and enjoying life. Most of all she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandson Antonio.
Margaret was a member of St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church under Pastor Rev. Phillip Shobes and served on the Chancel Choir and other ministries in the church. She loved serving in the community and being a part of ministry. Margaret had a strong faith and didn’t let any life challenges defeat her strong spirit. She stayed strong to the very end. She fought the good fight of faith.
Margaret Gilbert will be truly missed by her many nieces and nephews, her church family and all those who were blessed to connect with her. She leaves her dearest loved ones to cherish in her memories Her children: Kim Margaret Sarver (Tony) and Craig D. Gilbert, Grandson: Antonio E. Sarver; her brother Dr. Joe T. Johnson (Wanda) of North Carolina; Step-sister, Dianne Johnson of Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her loving sister, Dorothy D. Paige (George) -both deceased, brother, Donald L. Johnson (Peggy), and step-brother, David Johnson
