Born Monday, August 22, 1949 in Indianapolis, Indiana to parents Doris Ruth (Tanner) Wilson Golder Fields Laswell and Richard Earl Wilson, Jr. Third born and eldest daughter to a total of ten children, Marcia has always shown strength, resilience and motherly love.
Graduating Shortridge High School class of 1968; and furthering her education with the degree from Butler University. Marcia, always along someone’s side created wonders of the world. Believing everyone should be treated as family. Genuinely loving ourselves, our families, history, culture, and essence is where Marcia’s heart is. From the depths of her soul, SHE LOVES. That love created long-lasting, and meaningful relationships, fostered a community of people, held together with unity. First, a Women’s Social Group that of her closest friends, Mrs. Ellen Black, Ms. Sonja Marion and Mrs. Natalie Henson, named “Everyday People” to advance black culture and unity throughout.
Staying committed to advancing black culture she devoted 26 years to the incomparable Indiana Black Expo, Incorporated. IBE provided opportunities for passion to work with people. Working together truly worked. It catapulted careers, dreams, and expectations while providing a nurturing safe place. Her influence at Indiana Black Expo touched thousands and can still be felt today.
Marcia, a dream chaser, career driven and a family-oriented woman was fearless. She created her own family while previously married to Orville Lee Bennett. During this union, two sons were born, Kevin Lee and Ryan Lee Bennett.
Marcia had a strong belief and relationship with God. She believed in the power of prayer and would show all she met how excellent He is by living as Christ wanted. Marcia, sometimes affectionally known as “Dottie”, had a love for travel and shared many adventures with her close friends and loved ones. She had a passion for the arts and instilled that in her children. She loved animals especially her “poochie puppy”, Soc.
Marcia Diane Golder Bennett aka “Dottie,” “Bennett,” “Mama Bennett,” “Ms. Bennett,” “Go-Go Golder,” and “MB”, transitioned from this earthly realm on a Blue Moon, Monday, August 19, 2024 at 1:48 pm after battling 34 days at Community North Hospital. Her mother, Doris Ruth (Tanner) Laswell; father, Earl Wilson, Jr.; brothers: Roger Earl Wilson, Barry Golder, Richard Golder; and sister, Debra Golder precedes her in death.
She is survived by her two sons, Kevin Lee, and Ryan Lee Bennett; grandchildren, Rachael Lee-Ann Bennett, and Kevin Lee Bennett, Jr.; two lovely great-granddaughters, Tanner Bennett, and Zoè Murff; siblings: Michael, William, Donna, Bobby, and Jerry Golder; along with a host of family, friends, and loved ones.
