Mae Ethel Woodson was born October 15, 1931 to Herman and Laura Whitelaw. She was educated in the Indianapolis Public School system. Mae was joined in Holy Matrimony to Richard Edward Woodson Sr. on October 18, 1947. They were married for 46 years and were separated only by death. This union was blessed with six sons and two daughters. Mae also played an integral part in raising her Granddaughter April M. Woodson and Great Grandson Philip Moreland, in return April showed her appreciation to her grandmother during her illness. April was there continually for Mae. Mae also raised two other granddaughters Alisa Woodson-Hampton, and Janae Woodson.
After being a stay at home mother for 25 years she decided to enter the workforce. Mae first position was a receptionist at Andy's Package and Parcel Delivery Service. Later Mae took a position at the Secretary of State Office until her retirement in 1993. Mae was very active in Boy Scouts, and in the neighborhood activities, and political affairs.
Mae was baptized and filled with the Holy Ghost at 8 years of age at Christ Temple under the leadership of the late Elder R. F. Tobin. Mae continued her worship at Christ Temple until Grace Apostolic Church was established in 1953 under the leadership of the late Bishop Morris E. Golder. Mae's love for church was second to none. She dedicated her entire adult life to help her church flourish. Mae song in the choir, she worked in the kitchen, and she participated in the sisterhood, and other activities of the church. Mae also held the position of the President of the choir, President of the hospitality circle and Captain in the sisterhood. Mae not only served Grace Church but supportive other churches that grew out of Grace. Until her health fail she was life- long member of Sunday School Adult Class #2. Mae loved the word of God she was a true worshipper and praiser, and encourager her entire life.
Mae loved to travel and attend the yearly P.A.W Convention. One of her greatest travel adventure was when she went to visit her son Philip in Germany for 2 weeks. Mae loved to shop and was known for her stylish attire especially her hats. Mae was also an excellent cook.
Mae Ethel Woodson departed this life on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at the age of 85 years. Mae was proceeded in death by her parents, husband, and her brothers, Herman and Samuel Whitelaw.
She leaves to cherish in her memory two daughters Sheilah & Gwendolyn Woodson, six sons Richard, Robert (Joan), Ronald, R. Philip (Salena), Reginald, & Rodney (Neva) Woodson and a Special Son Kelvin (Regina) Baucom, St. Louis MO. Two sisters Vernice L. Williams, Deborah (Alan) Lewis, two Brothers, Joseph (Marsha) Benjamin (Janet) Guthrie, Special Father Nealon Guthrie. Sister In Law Diane Moore and two Brother In Laws Kirk and Paul Jones, twenty-five grandchildren and forty-eight Great-Grand Children and one Great -Great Grand Child and Host of Nieces, Nephews and other relatives.
