Leon Earl Oliver was born February 22, 1962 to Charles and Seiko Oliver in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was the fourth of five children, and the eldest of two boys.
While being reared on the southside of Indianapolis and the Haughville community, his early education was received in the Indianapolis Public Schools. Opting for an early entry into the United States Army in 1979, Leon completed his high school equivalency while enlisted. He was stationed at Fort Polk Louisiana where he trained as a Motor Transport Operator and was cited as a Rifle M-16 expert. He also served as a specialist in Company E Medical Support Battalion in the Army National Guard Indiana.
Upon an honorable discharge from the military, Leon embarked on a career as a semi-truck driver. Wearying of long days on the road and away from home, Leon obtained an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Electronics Engineering Technology from ITT Technical Institute. With this degree he was able to obtain lucrative employment as an Electronics Lab Technician with K. Whit Tools, a Certified Support Engineer with Cornerstone Controls and as a Design Engineer with Thomson Consumer Electronics. After Thomson closed for business, Leon became a subcontractor for DIRECTV.
Leon made his profession of faith and was baptized at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church in 2006. On February 20, 2009, he was united in marriage to Rhonda S. Gordon in Indianapolis, IN. Leon was a truly loving, dedicated and protective partner to his wife. He was also a doting father and strongly loved his siblings, in-laws, nieces and nephews. He was a loyal and generous friend who was always willing to help if anyone were in need. If you were hungry, then Leon would feed you by using his awesome cooking skills. If something needed to be constructed or repaired in your home, then Leon was your “go to guy” for consultation and instruction. For relaxation you were sure to find Leon enjoying his favorite pastime, fishing or as a loyal fan cheering on his beloved Indianapolis Colts football team. Leon never met a stranger and was extremely generous with his time and talents. Everywhere he went in the city, there seemed to be someone who always knew Leon.
Leon departed this life April 9, 2021. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Oliver and infant son, Brian.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Rhonda; daughters, Alnetta King and Rachel; sons, Leon and Scott Williamson (step-son); four granddaughters: Nija, Jania, Neveah and Aariyanna; mother, Seiko Oliver; brother, Anthony Oliver; three sisters: Maryann Stephenson, Yvonne Smith (Larry) of Texas and Alnetta Horice (Charles); and a host of nieces, nephews, loving family and friends.
