Leatha Mae Newton

Leatha Mae Newton was born Arleatha Mae Ealy on September 17, 1953 to her parents Mary and J. L. Ealy in Hillsboro, Mississippi.

“Knee”, as she was lovingly called, grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana with her eleven siblings; her brothers: John, John Jr., Jessie, Charles, James and David and her sisters: Mary, Brenda, Connie and Bonnie.

Leatha attended Arsenal Technical High School and graduated in 1972.  After high school, she furthered her career in cleaning and laundry services. She spent most of life working in the hotel industry and nursing home facilities.  When she could no longer work she spent the rest of life caring for her sons, nieces and nephews.

In 1975 Leatha had her first child, Thomas Ealy and later married his father, Thomas Newton Sr.  The couple had a second child, Jermain Newton in 1977.

Leatha was a very quiet and sweet but, she had a pleasant and caring personality and will be missed by everyone who knew her including her best friend, Theresa Clemons.

Leatha Mae Newton departed this life on Monday, September 5, 2022 at the age of 68 years. Her husband, Thomas Newton Jr. and son, Jermaine Newton preceded her in death.

She is survived by her son, Thomas Ray Ealy; mother, Mary Spivey; siblings: Connie Williams, Mary Spivey, James Elliott, Brenda Spivey, Bonnie Williams and David Spivey; a host of nieces, nephews, loving family and friends.
