Mr. Larry Wayne Gordon, age 61, passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2016. Larry was affectionately known to his family and friends as 'Yodi' or 'Bird'. He was born in Indianapolis to the union of Robert Gordon, Jr. and Clara Butler-Gordon. He received his education in the Indianapolis Public School System, attending School #38 and Arsenal Technical High School. Larry confessed his love for Christ at an early age and was baptized at New Hope Baptist Church, where he and his family faithfully attended. He enlisted in the US Navy in December, 1972 and received an honorable discharge in December 1974. After his discharge, he was employed by the U.S. Government Finance Center, Chevrolet, Curley's Cleaners and Midwest Vinyl. Larry met and later married Wilma Boyd, together they shared 15 years of marriage. He was a very joyful person and never met a stranger. He enjoyed music and dancing and he was the life of any party! He enjoyed being around his family and friends, especially his only daughter, 'Shenika', whom he loved and adored along with his grandchildren. Larry lived his life to the fullest and was called home surrounded by his family and friends. He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Wilma; his loving and devoted daughter, Shenika Gordon-Butler (Antoine Sr.), 3 grandchildren; one sister, two brothers, aunts, uncles, step-children and step-grandchildren and his lifelong friend, Robert Lewis and a host of other loving family members and friends.
Family and Friends Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 25th from 12 noon until service time of 2 pm at Lavenia and Summers Home for Funerals, 5811 E. 38th Street. Interment will be in Marion National Cemetery.
