LaDawn Felice Avington Micou was born on October 30, 1955, in East Chicago, IN; to Arthur Avington, Jr. and Forestine Williams Avington. Donna, as she was affectionately called; was the fourth of eight children.
The Avington Clan was a lively, active, fun, driven, scholastically talented and spiritual bunch. LaDawn loved her siblings immensely and considered them her very best friends.
Donna accepted Christ at a young age and remained a devout believer her entire life. She prayed often with and for others.
LaDawn attended Columbus Elementary School and Roosevelt High School, in East Chicago, IN. She later transferred to Horace Mann High School, after her family relocated to Gary, IN. She graduated in 1973.
Donna earned a Bachelors degree in Education from DePauw University, in 1977. She taught briefly, in the Gary Community School Cooperation, always valuing education and encouraging the academic pursuits of others.
LaDawn was a selfless, devoted and loving mother to four wonderful children. Sons: Corin (Sherita) Micou, Glennell Drake, Justin Micou and daughter, Qiawni Micou. Despite facing a myriad of illnesses throughout her life; Donna steadfastly prayed for her children, always placing their wellbeing, happiness, safety and care; above her own.
LaDawn was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents: Louise and Israel Hodge Sr. Paternal grandparents: Arthur and Mary Avington Sr. Great aunts: Ophelia Bell, Josephine “Bea” Avington, Hazel Morris and Helen Echols. Parents, Arthur and Forestine Avington Jr. Uncles: Reccie Avington, John Williams, Louis Williams, Sr., Kenneth Avington, Donald Avington and Israel Hodge Jr. Brother, Anthony Avington Sr. Sister in love, Tammy Avington and Brother in Love Clarence “CT” Thomas.
She is survived by her forever grateful and loving children: Corin Micou, Glennell Drake, Justin Micou and Qiawni Micou. Daughter in Love, Sherita Micou. Siblings: Tanya (Lynnell) Jennings Sartin, Ramona Thomas, Melanie Parker, Arthur Avington, Louise (Lorhland) Gandy and Ian Avington. Grandchildren: Corianna Micou, Jayden Woods, Corin “CJ” Micou, Jr, Lathan Micou, Jasmine Micou and Carter Micou. Aunt Pearly “Cookie” Williams and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Donna had a brilliant mind and a kind spirit. Her quiet strength rivaled that of men ten times her size. She was beautiful, brave, loving, opinionated, serene and caring. Family was her priority and love was her guide.
She will be sorely missed however, the brightness and purity of her light, will live on in all who loved her, forevermore.
“To know Donna is to love Donna. If you didn’t love Donna, you didn’t know her.” ~Craig Parker
