Karla Jean Washington "Broom"

Ms. Karla Jean Washington, daughter of Kenneth Lee & Martha Jean
Washington was born August 29, 1963 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Karla gained her wings
greeting our Lord and Savior on March 23, 2023. Karla professed her faith in Christ at
an early age. She instilled the foundation of faith into her daughters, grandchildren and
everyone she came in contact with.
She was a devoted and selfless mother, Mom B (grandmother), daughter, sister,
aunt, friend, and granddaughter. So much so, she left her job to be the live-in caregiver
for her grandmother until her passing on March 23, 1999. March 23rd will forever reign
in our hearts! Karla had an infectious smile and brightened every room she entered. She
had a heart of purity and was willing to give her last to anyone she knew, even a
stranger.
Karla attended William Penn School #49 and was a proud alumni of George
Washington High School Continentals as well as homecoming queen. After high school
Karla followed her passion of beauty and later on graduated from cosmetology school.
She was best known for her Judy Barnes’ iron outs, love of fashion, and classy style.
Karla began her work career at Blue Cross Blue Shield. Shortly after she was hired at Eli
Lilly and in 2010 transitioned to Thermo Fisher Scientific as a clinical trial technician.
Working alongside her sister (Selena) and a host of coworkers who soon became our
family. Additionally, she had a love for sports, specifically basketball and football as well
as a strong admiration for music.
Karla was preceded in death by her beloved grandmother Effie, aunt Ophelia,
aunt LaVerne, uncle William, uncle James/Popeye and cousin Mark Jr. She leaves to
celebrate her memories her parents, Kenneth and Martha Washington; daughters,
A’dah/Mia Whitfield (Mitch), Eboni Washington-Flowers (Willie James), Jordyn
Washington-Flowers; grandchildren, Isaiah, Kamryn, Christian, Sarah, Anvhyi, Khai;
siblings Daryl, Kendall (Kim), Selena (Herman); a host of nieces, nephews, other family
members and adored best friends.
