KAREN E. TARVER was the daughter of the late Dorthy Chandler and Ocie Chandler. She was born October 10,1954 at General Hospital (formally Wishard/Eskenazi) in Indianapolis, Indiana. Raised on the near Westside, but ultimately residing on the Eastside in her adult years.
She was called home on December 14, 2024, surrounded by Friends and Family. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and church mother, she is survived by her husband, Walter L Tarver; son, Marcus A Lewis, and preceded in death by her eldest son, DeQuincy C Stewart. She has three siblings Roberta Porter, Patricia Chandler and Mark Chandler, and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, friends and church family.
Karen “Elaine” as grandma would call her, graduated from Crispus Attucks High School in Indianapolis, IN. Later she went on to attend Ivy Technical State College, where she pursued careers in Teaching early elementary, Hospitality at the Indiana Convention Center, and Administration with Herff Jones Inc.
Karen was baptized at an early age at Bethesda Temple Apostolic and later finding a home and becoming a member at God’s Love Total Care Church, under the direction of Bishop G. Victor Morrisey, where she thrived in the word of God, she was an active member and dedicated church mother, serving GOD with all of her being.
Karen was a faithful wife, a loving mother, a blessed grandmother and a caring individual who would put other’s needs before her own. Karen was well-dressed, outgoing and a natural blessing to be around. She was an avid church member, and most of all she will be missed and remembered by the Love she had for her people.
Karen will always be extremely missed by her granddaughters Shanae, and Shaniya Stewart, Daijenae McBurdy-Stewart, and Malia Young, along with Grandsons Marquis Lewis, and Shane Stewart.
