Joyce Munro passed away suddenly on October 27th, 2023. She was known for creativity, love for art, classical music, as well as taking care of others.
Born January 29, 1945, in Carrollton, Mississippi, she was preceded in death by her husband of 25 years, Welton A. Munro. She never remarried.
Joyce graduated from Arsenal Technical High School, and after spending many years as a homemaker and providing childcare for family and friends, she attended The Wilton School outside of Chicago, Illinois. It was a culinary school founded by Dewey McKinley Wilton created to develop a method of dessert decorating that reached beyond professional bakers to households around the world. She was the “go to” for wedding cakes, birthday cakes, and parties requiring beautifully decorated and ornate cakes and desserts.
After the passing of her beloved husband, Welton, she was employed as a florist McNamara Florist. She designed arrangements for over 25 years. She was also involved in quilting as a member of the Quilters Guild of Indianapolis, travelling and participating in various quilting shows.
Joyce is survived by her brother Ervin Walker and wife Jenny Walker, sister Josephine Mlambo; daughters, Robin Munro, Raquel Johnson and husband Anthony Johnson; son Stephen Munro and wife Karen Munro; grandchildren, Nicole Gilcrease, Justin Caldwell, and Nia Johnson, as well as nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.
