John Derrick Amos was born on October 17, 1975 to John James Amos Sr. and Betty Jean Coley in Clarksdale, Mississippi. John was often referred to by his middle name, Derrick, by family members and friends.
After relocating to Indianapolis, Indiana, John lived the remainder of his life here. He worked as a Carpenter and had two up and coming businesses called A Luxury Cab Company and Front and Center Construction. He planned to return to this career but unfortunately passed away before being able to conquer his dreams.
John was very smart and anything he put full effort into he could and would do. He was a man of many talents some of the more memorable ones being his wrestling skills and Taekwondo.
He was preceded in death by his father, John J. Amos Sr.; stepmother, Evelyn Ruth Amos; grandmother and grandfather, James and Clara Summers all from Clarksdale, Mississippi.
He leaves to cherish his memories with his children and grandchildren: Daughter, Mikailah Monique Amos (Tranell) and her children: Joseph Duane Reese, Jacari Duane Wells, Jionni Duane Wells and Jrue Duane Wells; Son, Javion Akil Amos and his child, Cannon Wesley Amos; and Son, Ameer Akil Amos; Mother’s Children (2 sisters and 2 brothers): Talair Russell (Kevin), Lakeila Eldridge, Finnegan Coley and Cory Coley (Erica); Father’s children (4 sisters and 6 brothers): Kartreace Porter, Derrick Porter, Shekela Amos Vaulx (Antonio), John J. Amos Jr., John Deon Amos, Shantela Amos Jones (Derrick), Latasha Amos Johnson (Marlon), Jameion Amos, Travis Amos and Revis Amos.
John’s unexpected complications may have robbed him of sharing future laughter with his five grandchildren, but the legacy of joy he leaves behind will forever be cherished. Though saddened by his loss, those who knew him will forever be grateful for the laughter he brought into their lives.
As we say our final goodbyes to John, let us not remember his passing as a solemn occasion, but rather as an opportunity to celebrate a life that was lived to the fullest. If laughter truly is the best medicine, then John’s spirit will continue to heal hearts and bring joy to all who remember him.
