Mr. Jesse Donald Carey, age 97, passed away on Thursday, March 17, 2016.Mr. Carey was born in Beaverdam, Kentucky in 1918. After the death of his mother he moved to Danville, Illinois to live with his grandparents. Jesse was an outstanding athlete at Danville High School playing baseball, football, and running track. He enlisted in the US Army in February 1941. He served in North Africa Sicily and Italy, receiving 3 bronze Battle Stars, 5 overseas service bars, and one service stripe. He was honorably discharged in 1945. Jesse enrolled in dental school in Chicago with a desire to become a dental technician where he attended for one and a half years. He went on to work at Firestone for 21 years before owning an auto body shop where he worked as a body mechanic well into his 80's. Jesse Donald Carey leaves to cherish his memory, 2 daughters: Gladys (Roosevelt) Davisd and Crystal Darnell; 1 stepdaughter: Creshia (Timothy) Hinton; 3 sons: David (Johnnie) Carey, Daryl (Mary) Carey, and Kevin (Kory) Carey; 5 stepsons: Steve Chowning, Ricky Chowning, Arthur Chowning, Gregory (Cynthia) Johnson, and James (Julie) Johnson; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces nephews, and friends.Family and Friends Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2016 from 9 - 11 am at Lavenia and Summers Home for Funerals, 5811 E. 38th Street. Funeral service will follow at 11am.Interment will be in New Crown Cemetery.
