Jerry E. Owsley Sr. "Duck"

Jerry E. Owsley Sr., also known as “Duck”, passed away in the hospital after a brief illness at the age of 71 years. He was born April 10, 1950 to John and Maudlee Owsley as one of nine children. Jerry professed his faith in Christ Jesus as a young teen and was a member of Corinthian Baptist church. He also participated with the Church of the Living God, Young Christian Fellowship ministry located in his neighborhood.

Jerry attended Arsenal Technical High School. He was a stylish dresser and fully enjoyed singing. As a staple in the early Brightwood Community, Jerry was very active within the community. He was a great singer and could be seen performing in various events and talent shows. He also trained and practiced martial arts for several years. With his martial arts skills he successfully competed in several competitions throughout the city of Indianapolis and surrounding areas. Jerry liked feeding the birds and squirrels. He enjoyed fishing, camping and hanging out with his buddies. Jerry also, liked joking about his daily jogs. He was a skillful card player and very difficult to beat.

He was employed with Bryant Heating and Cooling Systems for 15 years until he became an independent residential interior painter for several years.

Jerry was previously married and two children were born to this union.

He has an additional child born to a later relationship.

His parents, John and Maudlee Owsley; and two sisters, Theresa Johnson and Gwynn Guynn preceded him death.

He leaves to cherish in his memory three children: Angela Owsley Jackson, Jerry Owsley Jr. and Amber Owsley Almond; three grandchildren; a great-grandchild; four brothers: Byron Owsley, Curt Owsley, Barry Owsley and Rod Owsley; two sisters, Quinnetta Reed and Sylvia McGhee; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Jerry will be dearly missed.
