James Edward Person Jr

James “Jimmy/Jim” Person, Jr. was the first child born to the late James Person, Sr., and San Bonita (Person) Milton on July 18, 1958.  He was born and raised in Chicago, IL, and attended Chicago public schools.  James spent many years working for General Motors in Illinois until he later moved to Indiana to be closer to his family.

After relocating to Indiana, he worked at Duffy Tool and Stamping for a few years until he gained employment as a Correctional Officer with Department of Corrections (DOC) through the State of Indiana. He worked at several different facilities (including but not limited to): Indiana State Prison and the Youth’s Juvenile Detention Center in Pendleton, Indiana Woman’s Prison (IWP) and the Women’s Work Release Program located in Indianapolis. During his tenure with the DOC, he was promoted and moved up the ranks as a Sergeant.

After obtaining his bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice later in life, James began a career with Department of Children Services (DCS/State of IN) where he served as a Case Manager.  Upon retirement, James worked for Robin Run Village where he served as a security guard to a senior community.

James was such a loving and caring person.  He was often referred to as a “GENTLE GIANT”. He was full of wisdom, compassion and understanding yet he wasn’t above gaining a new perspective. He will be truly missed.

James Edward Person Jr. (63) passed away surrounded by his loving family on August 2, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents: James, Sandy, and Robert (stepfather) and his brother, Kenneth.

James leaves to cherish his 2 daughters: Caitlyn and Erin; 4 grandchildren: Nate, Erianna, Arion, and Erian; stepmother Mary; 7 sisters: Nanette, Stephanie (Billy), Marva (Jeff), Peggy, Michelle (Levi), Monica (Myron) and Wilhelmena; 1 brother Robert (Dream); 4 Aunts: Joyce, Ruth, Shirley, and Glenda Beal; and host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
