Mr. James Albert Byrd, the son of Ernest Byrd Sr. and Annie
Lee Collins-Byrd, was born September 18, 1934 in Greenwood, Mississippi. He
attended Watson Academy. He was baptized at Mt. Zion Missionary
Baptist Church and professed his hope in Jesus Christ an early age under
the leadership of Rev. Al Williams.
'Buster', as he was affectionately called, relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana in the late 1950's where he was united in Holy Matrimony to Minnie B. McGhee. He became a member of St. Jude Deliverance Center and served as a Deacon under the leadership of Bishop
Joe L. Price. 'Buster' was employed at the Athletic Club and shortly after he was employed at N. K. Hurst Bean Company for over forty years where he later retired.
James enjoyed playing cards, shooting pool, cooking everything
together in one LUCKY pot and working on cars. He also enjoyed
family gatherings and was known as one of the most loved Patriarchs
of the Byrd family.
Mr. James Albert Byrd 'Buster' departed this life on Friday, February 23, 2018 at the age
of 83 years. He was preceded in death by his parents: Ernest Byrd Sr. and
Annie Lee Collins-Byrd; his wife, Minnie B. McGhee-Byrd; son, Bernie
Albert Byrd; grandson, James L. Byrd; sister, Beulah Byrd-Hill; four
brothers: Levi A. Byrd, Ernest Byrd Jr., Wardell Byrd and Samuel Byrd Sr.
He leaves to cherish his memory, one daughter, Debra Delores Byrd; son,
Jessie Jackson; six brothers: Johnnie, Asie (Rosa), Willie, Jerry,
Shelby (Susie) Byrd and Levester Rattliff; two sisters, Annie Byrd-Castlel and Carolyn
Byrd-Gee; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
