On December 15, 1929, Ms. Iris Mae (Scott) Busby was born to the late Fred and Nicsie Scott, of Hico, Tennessee. She attended and finished her schooling in 1940 at Riverview High School in Hickman, Kentucky, where the family relocated to from Tennessee.
At an early age, she dedicated her life to Christ. As a young girl, Iris was a member of The Church of Christ Holiness in Hickman, KY. After moving to Indianapolis, she became a member of The Church of Christ Holiness on Edgemont Street.
In 1952 Iris was united in Holy Matrimony to Richard Busby, and to this union six children were born.
Mrs. Busby retired from St. Vincent’s Hospital after working there for 23 years as a Nurses’ Aide. After retiring she became a member at Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church. She was a very dedicated member and served on the Usher Board until her health begin to fail.
She loved God, life and her family. Mrs. Busby enjoyed singing, playing cards, walking, eating desserts and drinking “TAB” sodas.
Iris Mae Busby answered the Master’s call on Tuesday, February 28, 2022. Her parents; son, Richard Busby Jr.; two brothers, Charles Scott and Fred Scott Jr.; two sisters, Ruthie Lee Medaris and Bellena Lewis; and one grandchild, Reginald Hutcherson all preceded her in death.
She leaves cherished memories to three sons: Hugh Barfield, Glenn Busby and Darren Busby of Indianapolis, IN; three daughters: Jacqueline Elam of Hickman, KY, Roslyn Busby and Bonita Vaugh of Indianapolis, IN; twenty three grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, loving family and friends.
