HUNTER “TAMYRA” CEEMONE GRANT was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on December 4, 2005. She was raised by her parents, Mark and Peggy Grant. She attended Pike Township schools until High School. While attending Eagle Creek Elementary School, Hunter sang with The Singing Eagles choir and had the honor of performing the National Anthem for the Indiana Pacers game. She also joined and competed with the Robotics Team. While at New Augusta Middle School she played the violin with the school orchestra, ran cross country and competed with the Pike Township Swim team where she placed in several of her meets and competitions. But Hunter’s best achievement was being inducted into the Junior Honor Society for two years while at New Augusta Public Academy. When selecting a high school, attention was given to Hunter’s unique way of thinking, her freeness on how she studied, and the pace in which she took regarding her education. Purdue Polytechnical High School North became our school of choice. She graduated from Purdue Polytech with high honors in 2024. While attending Purdue Polytech she joined the volleyball team. She was so excited when she was able to join the Backpacking class her junior year. It was during this time that she learned how to camp and hike. She took up Culinary Art at Purdue Polytech as well and although she was a vegetarian, she enjoyed the cooking projects. She was loved by her coaches and other staff members including the counselors.
In her short life, Hunter had many achievements and aspirations. Under the teaching and guidance of her “Uncle Linnie” she became a winning golfer. Hunter aspired to be a Veterinarian Nurse (Tech). She was accepted into Michigan State University’s Pre-Vet program but elected later to attend Vet Tech Institute at the International Business College. She was packed and ready to attend with a move-in date of October 26, 2024.
Hunter was a caring person. Always worried about others. She enjoyed music and gardening which she did with her younger sister, Courtnei and mom, Kim. She loved time spent with her brother, Marquen, as well as family trips and Mommy and Me dates along with private conversations with her selected few. But the love of her life, besides her dad, as she was definitely a Daddy’s girl, was her guinea pigs, Precious and Reeses.
Hunter departed this life peacefully on Monday, September 23, 2024, surrounded by the “Fabulous Five”: Dad, Mom, Bonus Mom, her Brother and Sister at bedside and a host of others in the waiting room. The smile which appeared afterwards gave some peace to us. Though we will miss her “presence” we will NEVER forget Hunter, the “present” God allowed us to borrow.
She leaves to cherish her memories to her father, Mark Grant; mother, Peggy Sneed Grant; bonus mom, Kim Grant; siblings: Marquen Grant, Courtnei Grant, Damian Grant, Laqueja Hill-Pratt, Demarcus Hickmon, Ayrrana Jefferson, Demiya Hickmon and Rein Hill; niece, Rayv “Tamyra” Campbell; grandparents, Judy Adams, Betty Williams and Donna Willis; great-grandmother, Queen Taylor; great-aunt Brenda Maddin (Curtis); Godmothers, Schawayna Rayford and Charlotte Scott; a host of aunts, uncles, loving relatives and the entire Greater New Hope Church family.
