Gloria C. Carter

Miss Gloria Chyinne Carter, the daughter of the late Charlean Carter and Alfred Carter. Gloria was born on February 7, 1961 in Shubuta, Mississippi and moved to Indianapolis with her parents shortly after her birth. Gloria graduated from Arsenal Technical High School and attended both Marion University and Martin University. She retired after 25 plus years from the Marion County Juvenile Court. Soon afterwards she was employed with the Indianapolis Public Schools as a Community Liaison Specialist for 15 years.
Gloria accepted Christ as a young woman, she was a founding member of Freedom Temple COGIC, under the late Elder Orville Joe Hamilton, then attended Spirit of Truth Church, under Elder Bobby Finley. Later, she joined New Haven Church under Bishop Charles McClain, Jr., she was a faithful member and her love for God was evident.
The love and support of family was very important to Gloria, and she would make every effort to be connected with her family, extended family and friends. Gloria's personality was easy going; her smile was warm and infectious. Gloria enjoyed great music from gospel to jazz, she enjoyed concerts, was a lover of books and the outdoors. Her hobby was shopping, and she made the best sweet tea. She was a very selfless person, and lived her life serving others making sure everyone was doing well. She would
always use the phrase, 'I'm good, you good?' Gloria had an undeniable love for her family and she was a peaceful and loving person.
Gloria was active within her community associated with the Brightwood Concerned Citizens Neighborhood Association. As a Community Liaison Specialist, Gloria worked tirelessly and even while sick to ensure her families were getting much needed assistance from various programs. 'That's how dedicated she was to the children and families of IPS #15.' She developed many business partnerships to assist and help the students meet their highest potential to enhance their quality of life and education. She spoke highly of Mr. Litz, one of the community partners and how giving he was towards the needs of the students. 'It was as if we knew him having never met him because she talked about him with such endearment.' The work she ministered to the students and others will live on!
Gloria departed this life in her home on Friday, May 5, 2017. She will truly be missed, but her legacy of service, love for God and for family will forever be etched in our hearts.
She leaves to cherish her memory her sibling: Rickey Carter, Clarence Carter, David(Sonjia) Carter; Sandra Carter, son: Ricky Carter Jr., father Alfred 'AC' Carter, her children: Stephanie Holston-Ward and Andrea Coe, Nieces: LaTrece Carter, Sydney Stewart, nephews: Stefhen Gadis, Davin and Timothy Carter, grandchild: Janiya Carter, her Grandmother: Louise Bolden-Davis, Uncles: John (Elaine) Bolden of Indianapolis, Percy 'Sonny' Gray of Chicago, Aunts: Maggie Grigler of Chicago, Viola Davis of Mississippi, Shirley Ingram of Texas, Pearl (John Earl) McDyess of Mississippi, Mary Joyce of Mississippi, Cindy Louise Ward of Ohio, Lure and Linda McFarland of Indianapolis, Mary Alice Bolden of Indianapolis, Georgia Mae Carter of Mississippi and a host of cousins, family and friends.
In loving memory of her dear mother Charlean Carter, grandparents: Lela and Mose Bolden, Sr., Alfred and Lousie Carter, Aunts: Ethel Bolden, Jerlen Gray, Uncles Lee Roy, Jimmy Lee and Mose Bolden, Jr., and Uncle Elijah James Carter all of which preceded her in death.
