Gerald Delano Johnson

Mr. Gerald Delano Johnson, the third son of the late Alonzo Hezekiah Johnson and Susie Andrea Woodson Johnson was born on February 15, 1970, in Indianapolis, IN where he was a lifelong resident. Mr. Johnson arrived in a grand appearance weighing over ten pounds – the gentle giant was born. That was his disposition throughout his life. Mr. Johnson professed hope in Christ at an early age where he began his spiritual growth at Westside Missionary Baptist church under the leadership of the Late Pastor William E. Coleman, Sr. He later attended and continued his faith walk with Faith Changers Church under the leadership of Pastor G. E. Studdard and God’s Grace Community Church under the leadership of Bishop Steven Thompson.

Mr. Johnson received his education in the Indianapolis Public School system then followed in the footsteps of his dad and siblings by enlisting into military service. He served in the US Army where he received an Honorable Discharge after serving in Operation Desert Storm.

During his military service, Mr. Johnson obtained the ability to shine footwear to perfection. He was self-employed using his shoe shining skills and created “Shine as New”. This was not a tag line but was a true statement – he had the outstanding reputation of providing the best shoeshine which allowed his clients to put their best foot forward.

Mr. Johnson never married or had children; however, this gentle giant had a heart for others that he shared with anyone in his presence.

Mr. Johnson departed this life on Sunday, June 23, 2024, at the age of 54 years, 4 months, and 8 days. He was preceded in death by his parents Alonzo Hezekiah Johnson and Susie Andrea Woodson Johnson.

He leaves to cherish his memory his brothers Eric (Vicki), Darryl (Alvernia), Kevin (April) Johnson, and William Coleman Jr; sisters Jacquelyn (Sherman) Strange and Candace (Jeffery) Holcomb; nephews Darryl (DJ), Zion, Malik, Kaleb, Kevin Jr Johnson, Jeffrey, Caleb, and Frandie Holcomb; nieces Kourtney, Shanelle and Erica Johnson, Jasmine Strange, Vivian, Rodeline and Nicole Holcomb; great nephews Jordan Whitfield and Jaeshon Hallums; and host of other relatives and friends.
