Georgia Mae SpannDocumentary film star, author and philanthropist, passed away Wednesday November 28th, 2015 at age 105. Georgia was born in Louisiana on April 17th, 1910 and has been a resident of Indianapolis since 1946. Georgia was a member of UCC Church and previously Traveler's Rest Baptist Church as well as Northside New Era Baptist Church. She was a member of Nellie M Strong Chapter 59 of the Order of Eastern Star.Georgia was an extremely generous person. Throughout her life and especially in her elder years she donated a lot of money to numerous charities. Georgia, made news headlines when at the age of 83 she made the brave decision to admit that, due to her limited education, she never learned how to read; With the help of Indy Reads, Georgia learned how to read and write and at 84 years old with the help of Goodwill Industries she even returned to school and received her GED. That same year she published her 1st short story, 'About A Young Mother'. Georgia is the star of the upcoming documentary film, 0.00004 The Amazing Life of Georgia Mae Spann. Calling will be from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. On Friday November 6th, 2015 calling will begin at 10:00 a.m. and a home going celebration will follow at 11:00 a.m., at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church 1301 North Goodlet Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana 46222. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made in her name to UCC Church (www.uccchurch.com) which will go toward bringing her amazing film to theaters.
