Geneva McClyde

Geneva Dorane McClyde was born Monday, April 30, 1945 in Tallahassee, Florida to the late Chriss Sr. and Charlotte Scurry Robinson.   Geneva accepted Christ at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church, Tallahassee, Florida.  She graduated from Lincoln High School in Tallahassee Florida in 1963.

On September 18, 1963 she married the late Lester McClyde Jr., and together they had three children with one surviving child. They briefly lived a few places until settling in Indianapolis, Indiana in early 1967.

Geneva started her profession as a Licensed Beautician and a Certified Nursing Assistant.  Geneva loved helping and caring for others.  She used this gift in her nursing career.  Due to her love for caring for the sick, she further her education to a License Practical Nurse and later to a Registered Nurse at Marian University.  She retired from Methodist Hospital after working there for the majority of her career.

Once in Indianapolis, Geneva tried a few churches before joining Mount Carmel Baptist Church  at Marion sometime between 1973 and 1975.  Her church family was a big part of her life.  If she was not working and the church doors where open, she was there.  She used her God given gift I n church in the nursing gill and ushering.  She lived her life as an example of how a Christian should live. 

During her time on this earth, she enjoyed church, bible study, decorating, yard work, sewing, and time with her family.  Everyone that knew her described her as selfless, easy going, quiet, nonjudgmental, country yet classy, loving, forgiving, and loyal. Her daughter found her strikingly beautiful and perfect. She rarely angered and always spoke respectfully making her a great example to others.

She was preceded in death by her Parents: Chriss Sr. and Charlotte Scurry Robinson; Husband: Lester McClyde Jr.; Brothers Chriss Jr., Samuel, and Clyde Robinson; Sister: Oleatha Mack; Children: infant son and infant daughter, Yolonda McClyde.

Geneva answered her heavenly call on Sunday morning, December 17, 2023. Her earthly journey ended after 78 years, 7 months and 17 days.

Cherishing her memory forever are her Children: Daffinie (Michael) Shelton, Son-in-law: James (Andrea’) Odhiambo; Grandchildren: Eboni Odhiambo, Kwame Odhiambo, Mychael Lewis; Great Grandchildren: Harmonee Conor, Essence Conor, Karter Conor, Mylee Lewis; God-Children: Tonya Montgomery, Kendra Lloyd, and Justin Goggans-Walker; Brother: Charlie D Robinson; Sisters: Connie Humose, Barbara (Pastor Lee) Green, Edith Hart, Burnette (Hopkins) Thompson; Sister-in-law: Margaret Jones; Brother-in-law: Theodore R. Mack, James O (Rose) McClyde and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
