Edward Daniel Killebrew

Edward Daniel Killebrew was born in Indianapolis, IN on April 5, 1935 to James Edward Killebrew and Mary Bell Moody Killebrew.

Edward accepted Christ at an early age. He attended Indianapolis Public School #26 and #37 and later went on to attend Arsenal Technical High School.

Edward had his own construction business for many years. He was a “jack of all trades” and a master of many. He began the “Hills and Bottoms Outdoor Sportsmen & Women’s Club, which was named in honor of the neighborhood he grew up in.

Edward did not meet any strangers. He was friendly and approachable to many. He was affectionately known by the names “Dad”, “PA-PA”, “Granddaddy”, “Uncle Brother”, “Uncle Daniel”, “Uncle Ed”, and “Killa”.

Edward loved the outdoors, fishing and hunting. He would always say “Keep your hook sharp” and when asked where he was going fishing, “The Honey Hole”. He enjoyed hunting especially with his bow and arrow. He loved his hunting dogs and taking them on runs in preparation for the upcoming hunting season. He was so good at hunting that people used to call him “The Rabbit Man”. He loved all types of sports and liked rooting for the Indiana home teams, even when they were the underdog.

Edward was well known for his fish fries. People would come from all over the city just to get some of that good ol’ fish. He always had the basics, whiting, perch, fries, coleslaw and hushpuppies, but it was the “other fish” that people craved. Bluegill, catfish, crappie, carp, and buffalo. He was such a good fisherman those “other fish” he would catch himself and every now and then, he would have a turtle too.

Edward married Myrna Louise Floyd in 1953 and from that union there were four children and two stepchildren.

Edward met the love of his life in the summer of 1964 and later entered holy matrimony with Laura Savannah Jackson and from that union there were three children.

Edward was the patriarch, the glue, the head and the foundation of his family. Edward was a man of all seasons. He was an outstanding role model and a great man. He loved family, especially the children. He taught them all his favorite words, “Be Obedient” and “Show Respect”.

Edward Daniel Killebrew departed this earthly life on Monday, September 7, 2020 at the age of 85. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Mary J. Boykin and Delores Richardson, brothers Carl Killebrew and Michael Leo Killebrew, daughter Stephanie Elaine Killebrew and three grandsons.

Edward leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife of 54 years, Laura Savannah Killebrew; sister Norma Jones, Eight children, Edwina Killebrew Ball, Daniel M. (Betty) Killebrew, Anita L. Killebrew, Linda R. Killebrew, David R. (Lisa) Killebrew, Cherry (Charles) Marshall, Oren (Gayola) Killebrew and Robin Killebrew, two Goddaughters Darlene Hill and Dora Sheets, Twenty-three Grandchildren, Fifty-one Great-Grandchildren and Nine Great-Great Grandchildren, along with a host of loving nieces and nephews, extended family and many friends.
