A Brief Sketch of Life
Mr. Eddie Gaither was born as the fifth child to the lateJohn Thomas Gaither, Sr. and Josephine Long Gaither on August 1, 1949 inIndianapolis, Indiana. Eddie receivedhis early education at St. Bridget's Catholic Church Parochial School and was agraduate of Father Thomas Scecina Memorial High School in 1968.
Eddie was employed at Sears & Roebuck Co., FortBenjamin Harrison, Wilson Freight, and eventually became a school bus driverfor Indianapolis Public Schools, where he retired after 29 years ofservice. Well known and loved, thechildren he transported and helped grow and mature in his family, church and Indianapoliscommunity always brought a good thought and smile (as well as a story) to hisheart.
Eddie met his future wife, Janet L. Johnson in 1973. As friends, their relationship grew into loveand marriage in 1989. Still together asfriends and spouses after forty-three years, they spent every day together,waking up to coffee and conversation and going to bed to the news.
Eddie was an altar boy and was baptized in the Catholicchurch. He always had a true faith andbelief in God, reading scripture and praying daily.
Eddie was a true storyteller, enjoyed jazz music, had a greatsense of humor, held an impeccable memory, loved fishing and sports, and couldsay a lot by saying nothing at all. He never knew a person who wasn't a friend,and even in his last days always made a mark on anyone he met.
Mr. Eddie Gaither departed this life on September 13,2016 at 8:40 am at the age of sixty-seven years, one month, and twelvedays. He was preceded in death by hismother and father; brothers John Thomas Gaither, Jr. and William Gaither; andsister Sylvia Gaither Morrison.
Eddie leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, JanetL. Gaither; his son and daughter, Charles Johnson and Taffie Jones; his elder sister,Joann Gaither Thomas; his grandchildren, Charles Johnson, Jr., ChristopherJohnson, Camryn Hattiex, and Tivan Jones; his aunt, Lorraine Freeman; and ahost of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and special friends.
