Douglas 'Joe' Bembry Jr.

June 21, 1948 — December 24, 2018

Douglas Bembry Jr aka 'Joe Bem' was welcomed to his heavenly home on December 24, 2018 by his parents, Douglas and Juanita Bembry and his daughters Robin Bembry and Verona Patton who preceded him in death. Joe was surrounded by family and friends in his final days and right up to the very end, despite his condition, he kept us smiling and laughing. Joe was a veteran of the US Army and served his country valiantly in Vietnam.

After serving in the military Joe worked for the US Postal Service for 30 years until his retirement in 2003. After retirement if you could not find Joe Bem, just look on a golf course..any golf course! There you would find him and his colleagues playing multiple rounds of golf. He loved his Cleveland Browns, Them FAMU Rattlers, Them Unviversity of Georgia Junkyard Dawgs, The Colts and the Pacers. Joe was an avid sports fan.

As much as he loved sports Joe also loved his clothes. Joe was a pristine dresser. From his suits to casual wear and even sweat suits, Joe Bem was a sharply dressed man and it did not stop there; in addition to his clothes, his cars had to stand out and they did! Joe loved his colleagues from the Cosmo Knights Social Club. He loved to travel and visited many places and countries. Joe loved and collected hats of all types from cowboy hats to ball caps. Joe had a hat to match every jacket or outfit.

Friendships were important to Joe; he remained connected to his folks in the ATL from Turner High School and until his health started failing, he would attend his reunion events in Atlanta. His bond with friend Rufus Payton and cousins Clarence Mitchell and Rollins Price was at an elite level. Joe maintained healthy relationships with Bonnie Bembry and Nancy Bembry-Gordy the respective mother's of his children.

After a courageous battle with heart disease, Joe is now pain free. He professed his faith in Christ and was baptized in November 2018.

He is survived by Sons Rodney ( Sarah) Bembry, Ryan (Monique) Bembry, Step Daughter Kristal Patton Grandkids Terrell, Channel, DeAndre, Kiara, Khiya & Rian Bembry, Dathan Emerson, Deasia Gray. Grandchildren Breenan, Dre'dyn, Jayden and Cali Bembry, Sister Kathy Ragland (Carl), Brother Calvin. Nephews Brenton Montgomery Shane & Cortez Ragland and J'donavan Bembry. Nieces Asia and Camryn Bembry.
