Doris Rachel Welch

Doris Rachel Palmer Welch was born September 23, 1936 in Floyd, Virginia to Theodore Winfield and Claris Vest Palmer. As a child Doris was brought up in an enterprising family. She was educated in the Virginia School System until the family moved to Ironton, Ohio. Doris met Vernon Welch while living in Ironton, Ohio and they became high school sweethearts. After graduating from Ironton High School, they married and shared a lifelong love. Following their marriage they moved to Indianapolis so that Vernon could attend Butler University. Doris was a full-time mother and after her children finished high school she went back to school and became a Certified Dietician. When Doris was a young adult God opened her understanding to the fact that she had to be born again according to the scriptures. She was baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and received the gift of the Holy Spirit under the leadership of Bishop Morris E. Golder of Grace Apostolic Church. Later Doris and Vernon became charter members of Christ Church Apostolic under the leadership of Bishop James E. Tyson, where she devoted her time to the printing department ministry. She also made herself available to any area of need within the church. Doris was a person of many talents. In 2001 she became a founding member of Temple of Praise under the leadership of Suff. Bishop Donald L. Golder where she attended until her Homegoing. Doris was a powerful woman of prayer and discernment who opened her home and her heart to all of the people the Lord led to her. Doris was a woman who was strong in her faith and a leader in her family. She was a 'Proverbs 31' woman. This is the legacy that she leaves to her children, grandchildren and all of the many people she loved. Her life is to be celebrated as she was such an encouragement to others. We are not sorrowful about Doris' going to be with the Lord for we know that we will see her again. Left to cherish her memory are her four children, Robert Welch (Lynette), Lawana Finch (James), V. Ann Welch-Johnson and Jacquelyn Welch; her brother, Wayne Palmer (Linda); her sisters-in-law, Roberta Williams, Jackie Samuels, Marie Bryant and Yvonne Rogers (Bruce); nine grandchildren, Grace Welch, Ashley Veney (Ara), Cristi Finch, David Finch, Genita Johnson, Rachel Johnson, Ann Johnson, Lauren Johnson, Gabrielle Johnson; many nieces and nephews, a host of spiritual children and friends.
