Donna Harney peacefully passed away at home, surrounded by family on Sunday, May 24, 2020. Affectionately called Fish by her loved ones, she was born on April 16, 1965, to Pearlee (Campbell) Richardson in Lewisburg, TN.
Donna was baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost on July 11, 1982, by Rev. George W. Ridley of Round Hill M.B. Church. In 2003, she joined Shining Star M.B. Church, where she faithfully served as the church clerk. Donna took her responsibility as the hands and feet of Christ, seriously. She used her community connections and personal resources to feed the homeless, clothe the less fortunate, and find shelter for families in crisis. She spent hours every day, making sure the needs of others were met. As a creative soul, she also reached hundreds of people by writing, directing, and performing in several of her original productions, which allowed her to share the Word of God.
Donna was happiest when she was surrounded by family, especially her husband Willie, who she joined in marriage on June 20, 1987. She loved family vacations, particularly on the beach. Donna also loved planning family reunions, small get-togethers, or any event that united her loved ones. She delighted in spending time with her girls, Shay and Tash, and her grandbabies, who she nicknamed Pudding Pie and Cuppy Cake.
When the Indianapolis Colts were playing, Donna was sure to be watching and cheering for the Horseshoes, much to the disappointment of several Tennessee relatives who prefer the Titans. She also loved the Indiana Pacers, but as a sports fan, she watched just about any basketball game on T.V.
Donna is preceded in death by her father, Willie Scruggs; maternal grandparents Grady and Josephine Campbell; and paternal grandparents Turner and Louise Richardson. She is survived by her parents Joe and Pearlee Richardson; devoted husband Willie Harney; daughters Renisha “Shay” McCarter and Tashlyn Harney; granddaughters Tareiyah “Pudding Pie” McCarter and Zariyah “Cuppy Cake” Jones; son-in-love Tarence McCarter; siblings Sherry Richardson, Wendell Richardson, Keesha (Derik) Hughes, Naomi Scruggs, India Scruggs, Devona (J.C.) Scruggs Clark, and Angela Scruggs; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and brothers-and-sisters-in-law.
