Dolores Lorain Grundy Ball was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on September 25, 1930, to Walter Sr. and Alberta Grundy. Dolores was the oldest of her eight sisters and one brother. She received her education in the Indianapolis Public Schools.
Dolores professed her hope in Christ at an early age at James Street Church of God. When she was a young girl, she was in the choir and played the piano. Then she joined Mount Carmel Baptist Church, and later in the years she became a member of Baltimore Street Church of God, under Pastor Roy Grundy.
She was involved in Community Services as a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts. Also, she ran the Community Center for the children in the community.
Dolores married Samuel G. Ball and from this union they have seventeen children, twelve sons and five daughters.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, and she loved her children and grandchildren with all her heart. Dolores would have her children clean the street by sweeping the curb and sidewalk, also making them cut the neighbor’s yard and keeping everyone around her neat and clean. She kept the neighbors in check also. Dolores loved skating and playing marbles with her sister, Wilma and the boys. She loved shopping and cooking especially making bologna spread that her children loved. Dolores loved playing with puzzles and baseball with her favorite teams being Chicago Cubs, Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees. Dolores also loved her TV shows: Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, the Oprah Winfrey Show and 25 Words or Less.
Dolores L. Ball departed this life on Sunday, October 24, 2021, at the age of 91. Her mother and father; three sons: Baby Ball (at birth), Jerry A. Ball and Kevin M. Ball; two sisters, Darlene Mitchell and Joyce M. Sweatt; and three grandsons: (Jerry A. Ball Jr., Waynemon Johnson and Marcus Clayton all preceded her in death.
She is survived by eight sons: Perry Ball (Eunice), Danny Ball (Toni), David Ball (Faith), Edwin Ball (Valerie), Christopher Ball (Yolonda), Darrell Ball, Matthew Ball and Gregory Ball (Shemeka); five daughters: Toba Harris, Renate Thomas, Patricia Phoneix (James), Christal Jefferson and Judy Russell: forty-three grandchildren, one hundred and one great-grandchildren, thirty-five great-great-grandchildren; five sisters: Freida, Lois Jean, Frances, Wilma and Phyllis; one brother, Walter Grundy Jr. (Toni); and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
