Devyn Elyjah Phillips

Devyn Elyjah Phillips was born November 5, 2000 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Nina Reese Phillips.

Having professed a belief in Christ at an early age he was baptized by Pastor James Roberts at All Friends Missionary Baptist Church where he was a faithful member of the Youth Outreach Ministry and of the Youth & Young Adult Choir.

Devyn was a graduate of Crispus Attacks Medical Magnet High School where he excelled in sports and academics. He was a classic triathlete where he competed in football, basketball and wrestling. Devyn received many awards, trophies and accolades for his achievements in sports.

He was a very hard-working young man with a strong work ethic. At the time of Devyn’s early departure from life he was employed as a package handler for United Parcel Service (UPS).

 Devyn was a kind and fun-loving person with a generous heart and a quick yet easy smile. He was also a dedicated father and a loving son. Devyn was a standup guy and engaged in activism at an early age from participating in peer mentoring and conflict resolution to voicing his thoughts on justice and equality during the historic Black Lives Matter March on Indy’s Monument Circle. Devyn was a wonderful soul and he will be greatly missed.

Devyn Elyjah Phillips departed this earthly life on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at the age of 23 years. His grandmother, Bettie Jean Dale, preceded him in death.

He leaves to cherish his memory to his son, Devyn Elyjah Phillips Jr.; daughter, MyLani Phillips; beloved mother, Nina Phillips; siblings: Chloe Phillips, Dallys Phillips and Camille Phillips; uncles, Gerald Phillips and Anton Dale; a cherished group of cousins who were more like siblings whom he loved greatly; a host great-aunts, great-uncles, extended family and friends who will forever hold him dear in their hearts.
