Debra Jean Mcclendon

The Obituary

Debra Jean McClendon, 51, of Indianapolis, Indiana was born on November 17, 1966. She was the youngest of 9 children born to Davis Sam McClendon and Mary Catherine Clay. She was preceded in death by her father Davis Sam McClendon and her older sister Brenda Mae McClendon. This is a special family that has prided itself on supporting each other. Debra was the last of a long lineage of children in the McClendon house. Being, the baby, she tended to be treated as such by her parents and siblings alike. She knew that her family would always have her back and she would do the same. She was inspired by her siblings and served as their mighty mouse throughout their years.

Debra attended IPS 69 for grade school and T.C. Carr Howe for High School. She was an avid cheerleader and was always the life of the party. Debra was friends with everyone she came into contact with because of her infectious laugh and stiff loyalty. She later went on to attend Ball State University and studied communications. She retained a lot of the friends she acquired in her youth because whenever she would see anyone, it was always Love.

Debra spent a portion of her adult life married to Melvin Hardy in which she birthed two children, Marc and Zhane' Hardy. Later, she birthed her third and final child, Samuel Hutchins. She loved her children very much, but a different love in her life was born a month before her decease. Kodi was born to Zhane' Hardy and Debra spent as much time as she could with her first grandchild, who she referred to as 'Suga Wooga'. She grew up in St. John A.M.E. and made sure all of her children did as well. Debra later joined St. Paul A.M.E. where her brother Allen was the pastor.

Debra was loved by a host of siblings, cousins, nieces, nephews and coworkers. She was known for always dancing and having fun. Debra loved to laugh and cook her 'famous' deviled eggs. She could often be caught watching every movie that was ever created. Debra would even spend hours re-watching movies that she probably saw just the week before

Debra was survived by her mother, Mary McClendon, brothers Davis, Curtis, Joe, Michael and Allen McClendon. Along with sisters Cathy Hunt and Linda McClendon and a host of other family members and friends. If there's one thing she wanted you all to do, it would be to remember the good times and laugh your way through the pain. Just don't call her Debbie.
