Celebrating the Wonderful Life of Mother Davina H. Sanders
Davina H. Sanders was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on August 8, 1944. She was the firstborn of Elder David L. Sanders and Jeanne H. Sanders. Although she was the oldest of ten children, seven were raised together. She affectionately called them the Magnificent 7.
The first high school she attended was Shortridge in Indianapolis. She continued high school in Los Angeles, California, when the family moved to Los Angles in 1959.
She graduated from Manual Arts High School in 1964; she started college at the University of Southern California (USC). She earned her associate degrees in accounting, Commercial Food Service, and Paralegal technology and a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Martin University. In 1993 she became a Proud Member of Alpha Kapa Alpha Sorority Incorporated.
In 1963, she gave birth to her firstborn, Tyshara G Bural, who sadly preceded her mother in death in 1992. On February 22, 1966, she gave birth to her adoring son Joseph H. Bural III ( JB). A son that loved and took great care of his mother. Proceeded in death by her granddaughter Quishanna Thomas-Lyones and her first great-granddaughter Jasha Lyones.
The family then moved to Indianapolis, Indiana, in the fall of 1979. Upon moving back to Indianapolis, the family attended the Temple of Saint David, where the pastor was her father, Elder David L. Sanders. She had many roles in the church, from church secretary, accountant, Sunday school teacher, and choir member, to name a few.
During this time in Indianapolis, she held various positions, including Administrative Assistant to the Principal Dean Fred Kelly of Arsenal Tech High School, where she worked until she retired from Indianapolis Public Schools.
In her spare time, she added to her resume writing over 300 poems and several published books under Vina Sez.
She also enjoyed a passion for baking. Her favorite thing to bake was her famous Pumpkin bread.
During the last few weeks of her life, she was able to spend time with her family on her first cruise to Turks and Caicos, she greatly enjoyed this time.
Davina H. Sanders departed this life on July 22; she leaves to cherish the memory of her son Joseph H. Bural (Michele ). Her two sisters Sylvia Howard, and Yvonne Ward (Gregory), seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, two great-great-granddaughters, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other relatives and close friends.
