David Lee Tyner

David Lee Tyner, the son of Robbie Lee Tyner and John Henry Brown, was born May 2, 1964, in Indianapolis, Indiana. His parents preceded him in death. He was the youngest of his mother’s six children: Shirley Brooks, Jimmy (deceased), Joyce, John (Brena) and Charles (deceased). He was the father of Aundrea Tyner-Ogunsanya (Kashy) and proud grandfather to his granddaughter Ariel and grandson De’Zire. David married Katina Chowning on February 14, 2017 and gained two bonus children, Dela and KaVonna Chowning. Hattie Chowning-Bates (deceased), a sister of Katina, introduced David to Katina many years ago.

David attended elementary and junior high at School #110 and was a 1983 graduate of Arsenal Technical High School. During his childhood and teen years, he was a member of the Wheeler Boys Club where he participated in sports and other activities.

David professed a hope in Jesus Christ as his Savior in 1981 and was baptized by his older brother John at the New Testament Christian Care Center in Muncie, Indiana. He later joined the Bethany Rembrandt Church of God where he faithfully served as a deacon and brotherhood leader until his health failed. David was dependable and used the gifts entrusted to him by God.

David worked most of his life. He followed his brother Charles to the 30th Street Market hoping to find employment. Since he could not work there, he volunteered until he was hired. He also worked at the gas station across the street from the 30th Street Market. Other places he worked included the Keystone at the Crossing Sheraton Hotel and the Army Finance Center. His last place of employment was LGC from which he received the 2016 Heroes of Hospitality plaque. This award suited David because he was a hospitable person. He never met a stranger and was friendly to all.

David’s greatest joys in life included family gatherings, particularly the family reunions; cooking his delicious fried chicken and mean greens; barbecuing any type of meat; and traveling. David did not let his physical disability prevent him from enjoying life, including driving long distances to family reunions in Houston, New Orleans, and Myrtle Beach.

David departed his earthly life on Friday morning, August 27th after a long illness. The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 5:1, “For we know that if the earthly tent which is our house is torn down, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.” We will truly miss David; however, he is now enjoying fellowship with Jesus in a healed body.

Others who will miss David’s presence include David’s nephews Neal Jameson, Jr. (Petra), Charles Brooks, III, Jason (Tania Eloisa), John Jimael (Thaia), and Darius James; nieces Jessica Tyner, Shanille Brooks, and Tenille Brooks; special brother-in-law Charles Brooks, Jr.; aunt Armree Turner; uncle Charlie Brown; paternal siblings Jeffrey Brown (Ann), Jennifer Brown, Allison Brown-Adams (Gerald), Angela (Dean) Sheck, Rosemary Brown and other paternal siblings; several great nieces and nephews; two special cousins, Carlissa Rena Richards (Andrew) and Jacqueline Morgan; parents-in-law Wilbert and Charlotte Chowning, brother-in-law Sheen Chowning (Sanithia), sister-in-law Yolanda Chowning; his extended maternal and paternal family; friends, former coworkers, and church family.

David’s family is grateful for the help he received from Pastor and Mrs. Floyd and other church members and the Community Hospital Network doctors and nurses.
