Cornelius Lewis “Boggie” Snorten, Sr. was born on October 31, 1948 to Arnethus Snorten and Vivian Smith Grayson Snorten Jackson in Indianapolis, Indiana. He departed this life on June 7, 2024 at the age of 75. He accepted Christ and was baptized at St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church. Cornelius married Carol Lutricia Kimbrough on July 29, 1978 and to this union six children were added.
Cornelius attended Indianapolis Public Schools, graduating from Arsenal Technical High School in 1966. After school, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps where he served from August 1966 to December 1969. During his service, he received numerous awards and commendations including: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Combat Action Medal, Navy Unit Commendation Medal, Purple Heart Medal, and Rifle Sharpshooter’s Badge.
Upon returning home, he began to work and start his family. For more than 20 years, he was an employee of the U.S. Postal Service where he retired as a supervisor in the Transportation department. Outside of work, Cornelius loved to spend time with family and friends and enjoying a glass of a top shelf, premium Cognac. An avid traveler, Cornelius was always ready to hit the road, and take in new adventures with loved ones.
Cornelius was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and siblings: DeForest, Richard, Sherman, Michael, and McKinley Grayson; Alice Grayson-Johnson; Florence Ball (Frank); Elma Lynch; James, Joe, John, and Leighowen Snorten.
He leaves to cherish his memory, Children: Mitchell Grant (Leandra), Darice, Angela, Cornelius, Jr. “Neil”, Christina, and Clifton Snorten; Grandchildren: Brianna and Caleb Jones; Zion, Jaedyn, Cornelius “Corey”, and Elijah Snorten; Gabrielle & Chloe Grant; Great-Grandchild: Camron Calhoun; Siblings: Dorinna Lash, Norma Grayson, Juanita Artis (David), Howard Snorten, and Omie Spivey; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He will forever be loved and missed by all.
